Western Railroad Americana is pleased to announce our Spring 2025 Locomotive Builders Plate Sale/Auction.  A curated collection of locomotive builders plates from both Western and Eastern railroads.
 
The Sale/Auction? Which is it? It is both. Please take a few minutes to read how this sale will be handled.
 
It is a sale if only one person wants the item.  It is an auction if more than one person wants the item.
 
If there is a bidding situation, we will accept bids in $25 increments. Everyone gets a call back and the bidding will continue until the other person bows out. Please help us complete this part quickly by being accessible via phone or email. If only one person is interested in an item then the call back will be simple and the transaction completed.
 
The Sale/Auction starts today!  Feel free to look over the catalog, request additional photos, ask questions, etc.. and then submit your bid.

We are going to let the auction phase run until next Saturday, April 19th at 8pm MST.  All bids need to be in by this time.  
 
After that the sale phase will start and anything left will be available on a first come, first served basis.  And YES, we are always open to offers and trades.  The goal is to find these items new homes.
 
These are cash prices.  Feeless payment services, cashier’s checks, personal checks if we know you, or cash are acceptable payment methods.  If you want to pay with a credit card, then there is a 3.5% fee added to the total purchase price.

Electric Locomotive Schenectady.  Construction number 4255.  Built 1913.  Road number #4255.  Excellent condition with one, little divot along the bottom edge near the left-hand side.  One caveat about the road number: there were three units built that year so it could be one of the other numbers but from the provenance we think it is road number #4255.

Baldwin Locomotive Works.  Front number plate from steam locomotive #20.  Measures about 14-1/4″ across.  Good condition with a couple of older holes on the backside and a little wear around 4 and 5 o’clock.  Unfortunately, the hub is ground down off of the back so we cannot tell what engine this plate was off of.

Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.  Baldwin Locomotive Works.  Construction number 55718.  Built December 1922.  Class P-6 4-6-2, road number #5231.  Very good shape with one, little ding along the bottom edge which is very smooth.  This may be a flaw in the casting? A fatigue stress on the front face.  About 11 3/8″ wide at the widest point.  A popular locomotive from one of the railroad’s name trains.

Bangor and Arostook Railroad.  Alco Schenectady.  Construction number 73055.  Built February 1945.  Class 4-8-2, road number #109.  Very good condition and no issues to note.  This was the last engine constructed in its class of 10 total mountain class locomotives built for the railroad.

Bay Point and Clayton Railroad.  Burnham Williams and Co.  Construction number 31305.  Built July 1907.  Class 0-6-0, road number #2.  Originally built for the Cowell Portland Cement Company but was delivered to the Bay Point and Clayton Railroad.  A standard gauge railroad that moved finished product from the mill to interchange with both the Southern Pacific Railroad and Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad.  The Bay Point and Clayton Railroad had a total of six locomotives.  Two of them were class 0-6-0 and other four were class 0-4-0T mining locomotives.  With only eight miles of track, this is a rare opportunity and a treasure from an almost never seen railroad!

Las Vegas and Tonopah Railroad.  Alco Books Works.  Construction number 44751.  Built December 1907.  Class 2-8-0, road number #31.  Very nice condition with a little ding along the left-hand side. otherwise really nice with no holes or repairs.  The majority of the Las Vegas and Tonopah locomotives were made by Baldwin, with only four units being made by Alco.  The four units being one class 4-6-0 and three class 2-8-0.  This makes this a very hard plate to come by from this famous Nevada shortline!

of Kentucky.  Standard gauge railroad.  Very good condition.

Longview Portland and Northern Railroad.  American Locomotive Company, Richmond Works.  Construction number 66919.  Built May 1926.  Class 2-8-2, road number #1400.  Plate is in very good condition.  A very hard to find plate from a railroad that rostered very few steam locomotives during its existence.  A rare Oregon and Washington shortline builders plate.

Louisiana Eastern Railroad.  Front number plate from a class 2-8-2, road number #13.  Plate is in very good condition.  Measures about 16-3/4″ across.  The locomotive was named the “Shiloh”.

McCloud River Railroad.  Alco Schenectady works construction number 66435.  Built September 1925.  Class 2-6-2, road number 25.  There is one small fatigue stress along the bottom that goes through the backside.  More of a small hairline.  Cast iron construction plate from a very desirable road that ran around the Mt. Shasta California area that hauled lumber and forest products.  A rare California shortline!

Southern Pacific Railroad/Southern Pacific de Mexico Railroad.  Baldwin, Burnham Williams and Co.  Construction number 29145.  Class 0-6-0, road number #1141.  Started life on the Southern Pacific and eventually made its way to the Southern Pacific de Mexico.  Plate is in fair condition with fatigue stresses along the face that do not affect the structural integrity of the plate at all, noted for accuracy.
