Fall 2024 Western Railroadiana Sale/Auction
Western Railroad Americana is pleased to announce our Fall 2024 Western Railroadiana Sale/Auction. A curated collection of 70 items of western railroadiana (we threw in some stuff for our eastern collector friends as well!!) that includes a nice selection of railroad antiques in multiple categories including: builders plates, front number plate, lamps, lanterns, locks, keys, and other miscellaneous railroad antiques.
The Sale/Auction? Which is it? It is both. Please take a few minutes to read how this sale will be handled.
It is a sale if only one person wants the item. It is an auction if more than one person wants the item.
If there is a bidding situation, we will accept bids in $25 increments. Everyone gets a call back and the bidding will continue until the other person bows out. Please help us complete this part quickly by being accessible via phone or email. If only one person is interested in an item then the call back will be simple and the transaction completed.

We are going to let the auction phase run until next Sunday, October 27th at 8pm MST. All bids need to be in by this time. After that the sale phase will start and anything left will be available on a first come, first served basis. And YES, we are always open to offers and trades. The goal is to find these items new homes.
These are cash prices. Feeless payment services, cashier’s checks, personal checks if we know you, or cash are acceptable payment methods. If you want to pay with a credit card, then there is a 3.5% fee added to the total purchase price.

Atchison Topeka and Sana Fe Railroad (Santa Fe) – sand painting figure glass panel. Inspired by the Hopi Indians, these hung behind passengers in the car. There were four different figures in each Santa Fe Hi-Level diner, and only 5-6 cars in use, which means only a total of 20-24 of these were ever made. They sat like a partition and lit up. Measures a large and heavy 37″ tall and 16 1/2″ wide. When lit
properly they are stunning!

Santa Fe “sand painting figure” glass panel. This is the Kachina. Inspired by the Hopi Indians, these hung behind passengers in the car. Central Pacific Railroad – a journal box cover from an early freight car cast with a date of 1875. A nice piece of early transcontinental railroad history.

Central Pacific Railroad – early cast brake shoe found in a Nevada antique store. Heavy! Nice early piece of transcontinental railroad history. Measures 13″ by 3 1/2″.

Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad – a locomotive model designation plate from an EMD E5. These units were also owned under the CB&Q/C&S/FWD family of railroads.

Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee) – Hiawatha oval plate from the Milwaukee Road Skytop Lounge #188, named Dell Rapids. The car number #188 is stamped on reverse of the plate. Most of these plates do not have the car number stamped on them making this a rare one.

Chicago and Northwestern Railway – graniteware cup. Shows some use but overall a very clean example. Some enamel loss at top of handle.

Colorado and Southern Railway – Adams and Westlake model 1909 fixed bell bottom lantern with a clear cast transitional style extended base globe cast “C&SRy”. The frame has absolutely beautiful patina and a nice strong strike on the globe.

Colorado and Southern Railway – Adams and Westlake model 1895 fixed bell bottom lantern with a red etched CNX style globe etched “C&SRy”. The globe is manufactured by MacBeth Evans and is hallmarked as such. The lantern frame is in original condition including some old red paint on the bottom of the bell.

Denver and Rio Grande Railroad – fancy back lock switch lock. The lock appears to have been opened and repaired at one time but still a rare and desirable lock. Spring in the dust cover and the lock works with a standard Denver and Rio Grande Railroad switch key.

Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad – switch lamp manufactured by Dressel. Cast D&RGW inside the mounting bracket.

Duluth Missabe & Iron Range Railway – locomotive builders plate from 2-8-0 #192. Excellent curvature. Manhole style plate about 16 1/2″ wide. Originally built Duluth & Iron Range #92 before going to the DM&IR.

Great Northern Railroad – Hillyard Shops Built-1927 plate. Excellent shape. About 12-1/4″ by 4″. It’s off of a 4-6-2 engine but which one is a mystery. Based on the date, it would be a H-5 and would be narrowed down to units #1366-1374.

Middle fork Railroad – locomotive builders plate from Heisler #7. This was the last Heisler locomotive to leave the line and has been restored to operation and runs today. A nice piece of steam locomotive history out of West Virginia. There appears to be a braised or silver soldered repair on the left side of the plate.

Northern Pacific Railroad – railroad test gauge manufactured by the American Steam Gauge Co. out of Boston, Bourdon Steam Gauge. Tests up to 300 PSI with NPRR marked on dial/face. Very nice condition with a few dings, nicks here and there from use over the years. 10 1/2″ wide. This gauge was pictured in the book “The Antique American Steam Gauge, A Collector’s Guide”. Pictured on page 124 and featured as one of the rarities as far as railroad test gauges are concerned.

Northwestern Pacific Railroad – switch lamp made by Adams & Westlake. A very hard to find lamp that is in as-removed condition from railroad service. Uncleaned and just perfect originality. Comes with two purple and and two red lenses. Complete with the vent assembly, fuel font, burner, lifting stem and Pyrex glass chimney all present.

Pacific Express Company – brass top bell bottom lantern manufactured by M.M. Buck. Some overall light pitting and some small pinholes in the bell and lid but still a very nice rare lantern. This is one of three known examples to exist. The Pacific Express Company was formed from the merger of the Kansas Pacific Railway and Union Pacific Railroad express department. A nice piece of early western history.

Pennsylvania Railroad – locomotive builders plate from a GG1. This is the harder to find cast iron version of the plate, most of them are made of aluminum. From the last production batch of GG1 locomotives. Condition is as removed from the locomotive.
